The SW Design Assurance Team requires Engineering Skills Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning technical and Computer Vision areas to assess design quality for the Robotics/Automation Business Unit. Approximately one year ago a contractor was hired to work with the Engineering Development Team contributing to the Quality of the Design. The SW Design Assurance Team supports Zebra's promise of quality to our customers and is responsible for ensuring products meet specifications throughout program phases from components to final product.


SW Design Assurance Team / Product Quality Engineering team is looking for a full-time employee that has the technical skills associated with this position.

  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge in design for Robotics quality, this entails knowledge of Computer Vision and machine learning.
  • Autonomous Automated Technology - knowledge of SW architecture surrounding obstacle avoidance motion control and safety conditions.
  • Object recognition structure and related Lidar and sensor technology.
  • Knowledge in path planning, perception (obstacle tracking and detection) and multi-robot coordination.
  • Proven application development of Artificial Intelligence SW.
  • Background in Deep Learning SW design.
  • Experience with Robotics Solutions as a Service.
  • Working as part of a design team, provides all design assurance deliverables required in the development process at each phase with low level of coaching.
  • Advising SW design engineering on algorithms and SW Best practices including the application and testing of embedded SW and cloud systems
  • Highlight any quality issues to ensure the program is on the glide path to meet SW product quality release objectives.
  • Ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of cause-and-effect relation between SW defects and potential impact and consequences to customers, enabling strong customer advocacy support, specifically in the technology of autonomous automation.
  • Communicates proactively with all stakeholders about reliability analysis and results. Uses experience and knowledge to proactively identify risks to the project. Contributes to overall project leadership.
  • Perform analysis of quality metrics, analysis of defect root cause and defect risk assessment, input decisions as to prioritization and severity of SW defects, represent customer vantage point for all quality related issues working directly with the design team.
  • Develop SW design assessment criteria specifically to robotics technology.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators considering Customer Facing attributes, specifically applicable to robotics technology.
  • Set up and conduct Release Readiness Assessment meetings and other key milestone reviews with the entire end-to-end product team according to prescribed methods.
  • Acts independently to apply knowledge to highlight or resolve issues about design approach and conformance to standards. Acts as an escalation point for Level 1, 2 or 3 DAE team members in complex issues
  • Contributes to innovation efforts by participating actively in brainstorming activities and actively benchmarking externally with other organizations on best practices in design assurance


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in an Engineering field (Software Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or other related fields Mechanical, Electrical, or Reliability)
  • Minimum of 12 years' experience in Software Engineering and Computer Science for Robotics related fields
  • Advanced knowledge, skill, and problem-solving ability on robotic technology.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Software QA automation experience working with any of the following technologies: Java, Python, PERL etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Robotics, Machine Vision, Machine Learning or Deep Learning
  • Experience in SW Stability and performance strategies
  • Work closely with Product manager, SW Engineering team, Test leads and provide technical direction in design discussions, customer use cases and project reviews.
  • Experience communicating to cross-functionally and across management levels in formal and informal settings
  • Ability to actively engage business/technology partners, present, defend & challenge technical recommendations
  • Ability to deal with ambiguities effectively
  • Advocate for the customer and drive for the highest quality at all levels of the product.
  • Instill best practices for software development and documentation
  • Validated ability to deliver high-quality work on tight schedules
  • Passion for innovation & continuous improvement
  • Strong analytical skills & methodical, objective, approach to problem solving
  • Nice to have any additional certification and working experience of quality management systems
  • Design For Six Sigma, Black Belt or Master Black Belt certification, P. Eng or advanced certification a plus
